Bought a '99 5 dr Corsa 1.2 16v (96K) recently. Lovely car to look at and drive.
Only 2 problems with the car:
Front O/S suspension spring broken (dealer pays for this) will be repaired soon,
Rattle from somewhere under the car at the front (sounds like pots and pans being rattled)
I have checked the exhaust and any heatshields, but all appear fine.
The noise is only there when I first drive off, as I'm cruising along the car is fairly quiet - or as quiet as 11yo corsas can be.
Could this noise be related to the broken spring?

yeah possibly mate, wait for the spring to be fixed then see if its still there, but it would probably make the noise more often if it was that.
Drive it like you stole it

Re: Rattling Noise
check to c if the broken part of the spring is sitting inside rattling around.
Y the hell u driving it still if spring is broken, if that spring slips of whish yr driving it will go into the tyre and cause a narsty prob while driving.
Trust seen it happen, when i worked for Citroen certain cars were recalled as front springs were snapping and going through front tyres causing fatal accidents.
Becareful fella

Garage where I have had my previous cars serviced assure me that it is the Cat which is kn******d. Having a new one fitted in a day or two for £175. Will let you know the results then.

Re: Rattling Noise
Autocentre carried out the repairs, and charged £175 for new cat + £95 for new front spring.
Result: handling better and no rattling noise. I don't like spending my money like this, but I am happy with this result.
Now planning my revenge (legitimately through Trading Standards) on the scrote who sold me the car.
