Tyre sizes.
Hi all,
recently bought a '99 Corsa 1.2i 16V. For some reason or other the front & rear tyre sizes are different (but all new). I have 195/60R15's on the front and 175/60R15's on the rear.
I know this is legal, but why would someone fit these?
Also perplexed as to what size spare I should buy in case of puncture etc ? As far as I know or can see, the springs are all standard.

Re: Tyre sizes.
there different tyre and wheel sizes. the 195 is the width, the 60 is a percentage of the width which makes up your height and the r15 just means its a 15 inch radial tyre. are your front wheels wider than the rear? maybe the previous owner was going for a different kind of look, i have seen this before but its normally on polos and the rear wheels are normally wider.

Yes the fronts are wider than the rear. Must only be like this for the looks.
Will this cause me any problems regards handling? Will it do any harm to the car?
Btw thanks for speedy reply

Re: Tyre sizes.
There's the off chance that it's been quatermiled. In that case people do fit bigger fronts for higher traction, and thinner rears for reduced resistance. A friend ran space savers on the rear of his Golf for a while, but it was a dedicated 1/4 mile car and had no traction on cornering at all.
Normally wider wheels are used on the backs of RWD cars, but it is pretty common on FWD VW / Euro Scene as well, just for the look.
Prev owner prob bought them for the back but then reliased they scraped like hell and swapped them round
I wouldn't worry about the spare as long as it's legal and is roughly the same size. I just keep an ickle space saver in mine so I can store other crap in the spare well.

nd ye quarter miled just means doing a straight line 1/4 of a mile track as quick as possible.

Re: Tyre sizes.
Well, if someone has been racing it - remember this is a bog standard Corsa 1.2 apart from the wheels - then i think he/she will have been bringing up the rear in each and every race!
Thanks for all the replies.

seems more likely that at somepoint the previous owner needed some new tyres or rear wheels
then just bought the first ones he/she saw at the scrappers.
