try spraying wd40 on the gaskets and pipes around the throttle body and see if the revs stabilise or jump up, it could be a few things mate, a gasket might have broke abit allowing extra air to be drawn in making it rev up and down. try cleaning the connections aswel

few things it could be, obviosly you have tryed some already
could be faults with the ignition system, leaks in the vacum system,
idle control valve, egr valve, fuel pressure regulator, engine compression,

without doing a diagnotic its can be hard to say, best thing to do is check everything
start from the igniton system and work thru it, if you have a multimeter check various sensors like the maf sensor n what have you.

Could be the spark plugs - i had the same problem with mine a little while back and when i checked the plugs one was cracked but when i replaced them it seemed to solve the problem.
Hope this helps :)

check your sensors for the correct resistance also check the HT leads for resistance aswel. did you try spraying wd40 on everything? if you can try the paperclip test and see if it has stored a fault. if none of this works then i can only say clean all your sensors or its a trip to the garage for diagnostics im afraid (presuming you cant do the paper clip test).

Hi i have tried alot of thing that people have suggested and still no luck. but i have pressed the 2 buttons together on the MFD and it flashes F12 then F95, look on the net and seen somthing about the hot start valve could this result to it revving up and down and also holding back. if it is does any one no were i can find this part on the engine hope some one can help thanks

the f95 isnt a fault its unrelated to diagnotics
if you have a 1.0i or a 1.2 16v then you cannot read the fault codes without a diagnotic machine

id reccomend getting someone with a fault reader to come check it
probably about £20 from yellow pages for them to come to you
look under CRYPTON TUNING or ENGINE DIAGNOTICS
could save you alot of headache trying to find the fault.

if you really wanna have a go at finding the fault yourself you will need a multimeter to check the sensors

how is your car actualy behaving? do the revs go up and down when your driving or when its idling
does it do it when hot or cold? does it do it when your using alot of power (ie headlamps massive sound systems etc etc)
what engine is it? with it being an sxi im guessing a 1.2

at a guess im going for irratic idling, could be caused lots of diffrent things
leaks in the vacuum system
idle control valve
ignition system faults
throttle position sensor
low engine compression
faulty injectors
fuel pressure regulator
maf or map sensor
cranksensor

as dandan said and i said previously, check the resistance of certan sensors with a multimeter see if everything is ok
