Idle speed

1999 Corsa Club 1.2i 16V.
When I start it up from cold the revs are about 1500rpm. As soon as I touch the accelerator, they drop to around the norm of 800rpm.
Now I would have thought that the revs would drop much more gradual as the engine warms up, as it used to do on my old Cavalier.
Anyone any thoughts on this?

could be your idle control valve or throttle body sticking
try removing the ICV and throttle body and having a clean
