What's the worry about the engine code? As far as I know, if you're 1.2 engine is engine code X 12 SZ (SOHC), the 1.4 X 14 SZ (SOHC) head would fit with some gentle persuasion, but don't just take my word for it! I've also heard there are potential problems with compression, and accelerated piston ring wear. And just to add insult to injury, I have first hand experience of a stock X 12 XE pulling away from this combination.
If your engine is code X 12 XE, the head from a X 14 XE should fit on (now this one is only a theory, I have no personal experience / knowledge of this one).
If you want the extra power you'll be better off dropping another engine in, doesn't have to be a 2.0, even a 1.6 would give you more noticable gains and thanks to the continuing success of the Nova, there's quite a inventory of parts about for the 'lesser' models
