Weird metal on metal sound

Post by mike77 »

HI guys, Ive had my corsa for about 5 months but recently its started making this metal on metal sound, its mainly when moving off but it happens randomly when im driving along at any speed. We had the brakes checked at the garage 'cos we thought the brakes werent releasing but they cant find ANYTHING wrong :S. I have no idea what it is.. pls help?

BTW it passed the MOT a week ago.. so I dont think its anything like worn pads.. but this noise has only happened since Ive had a front and back wheel bearing replacement...

its possible that the brake backplates are catching on the front disc or rear drum

you can do it yourself, remove the road wheels and check that the back plate is away from the disc, its only thin metal and can easily be manipulated by hand. make sure that you rotate the discs so the dont contact. as for the rear remove the wheel and brake drum, there is a thin metal lip on the inside of the drum that can get bent or twisted, you will need a screw driver for this. check for shiny metal where it been rubbing. when you put drum back on make sure if its a split bearing you dont over tighten it.
