Gfs corsa - cat c write off - no vic check? :s
Hi again every1. Just sumthing that has been bugging me - i decided to txt check my gfs car and found it was a cat c write off back in 2001 and that it has never had a vic check. but its got a valid mot atm and im presuming - although its got no service history its had a few more over the last 9 years. does that mean its fine and safe 2 drive then?
thanks
thanks

it works the other way round
my understanding is say i write off my car cat c
the dvla put a VIC marker on it
it gets repaird and i have a VIC
the dvla then remove the vic marker and ammend the V5 (logbook)
any details of VIC or repaired from a write off should be on the log book, check it out

when did she buy it? cus the dvla wont send out logbooks or issue road tax to a car thats been cat c and not had a vic
if you have the log book, or recive your V11 when your tax is due, it will have had a VIC.

hmmm
im guessing you dont have the logbook yet then...
Go here: http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPor ... =link.next#
this will tell you when the last V5 was issued (logbook) if it was after 2001 your ok if it was before 2001 if could be possible that it hasnt had a VIC :S
if you dont know the document ref number then check anyway and see what it says about road tax will give you a clue to weather its legaly taxed or not
for example:
say if i crashed my car and repaired it from a CAT C then just sold it without doing a VIC
since i have the last issued log book, i could sell it with that plus it has tax and a valid MOT
admitly 2001 was a long time ago and any MOTs or tax would expire but if you know someone its not hard to get a fake mot certificate or tax disc
im not trying to worry you or anything but i would seriously double check

Okie dokie will do - i'll try and get hold of her reg when i next see her. gotta be careful cuz shes really aggressive about this cuz she dont want 2 find out her car is dodgy in any way - she wont even let me pump up the tyres so i have 2 just do it when she aint looking :s

i know its not nice if you find your car is dodgy, at the end of the day you dont wanna buy a ringer!
should get her to realise that if there is somthing dodgy with her car, best to get it sorted asap
after all you wouldnt like to be out driving and stopped by the police, cus they cud just take it and crush it for not having a VIC check
honestly i think everything will be alright. but its better safe than sorry eh!

probably nothing to worry about then
might be the reason they stopped you, cus any problems will flag automaticly on the polices ANPR.
maybe somthing didnt quite check so they stopped you to check it, satisfied they told the hed office nothing to worry about and left it at that.
makes sence
id still check the reg with that website when you get it but sounds like your alright

Re: Gfs corsa - cat c write off - no vic check? :s
my car when purchased was a cat c but that was a category the insurance company gave it not dvla and was never recorded as such . a vic check does not prove the vehicle has been repaired to any standard it is basically to satisfy vosa it has not been repaired as a cut and shut by checking all ident numbers etc are as they should be and no recorded stolen parts have been used in the repair. also compulsory vic checks are a recantly modern requir ement it used to be down to the individual to satisfy themselves by having one done it is now a requirement meaning its another way to keep ringers off the road and a way of taking 80 quid of your hard earned cash
