Dry wheel bearings

Post by Jimi137 »

On my girlfriends corsa ive just swapped the wheel trims over and found that there is no metal caps over the wheel bearings on her front wheels and that the wheel bearings seem really dry. i can hear them vibrate when shes braking so obv i know they aint in perfect order but moneys tight and she dont want 2 get them fixed until they break so how shud i go about sorting them out as a temp fix. i know i need new caps but on my car they were covered in oil and greese so shud i do that do these ones and if so what exactly shud i apply 2 them 2 make them work a bit better?

thanks in advance

all the cover does on the front wheels is protect the driveshaft threads from going rusty , i cant see how you can say the bearings are dry when they are infact sealed ? so if everything is dry around the driveshaft end then its how it should be and wants leaving alone . if you have no humming noise when driving especially when turning into lock then theres nothing wrong with the bearings and you need to look somewhere else

hmmm, well the rac man who came out 2 me when my bearing went (for the second time in 2 months) sed the reason it went so quickly was cuz i didnt replace that little metal cap. and everytime i had my bearings replaced (3 times in the time i had it) that part kept being greased up when i got my car back. when it went dry is when my bearings crapped out :s

well as far as im concerned your rac man talks out of his arse that cap on the front is no where near the wheel bearing as its further in behind the brake disc by putting grease in that does absolutley nothing on the back wheels yes most important but the front no way . just for the record i am a fully qualified vauxhall technician and have done hundreds of the things so i think im qualified to answer your post

i can 100% back this up, he deffinatly knows his stuff, he diognosed my car over the phone, told me how to fix it, and even gave me a price for the parts (was only £1 out  )

he will also be working on my car before pvs,

i would believe him over an RAC man every day of the week :D
OFFICAL DVLA DATA:
1414 - corsa gsi's on the road in 2008.
735 - corsa gsi's currently on the road and 436 SORN
Basicly you would have to be a right tw*t to break one for parts

Thanks to everyone for an awsome weekend at pvs!
