Fault Codes from Paperclip Test - Help!!?

Post by belfast_bhoy »

Ok... bit of a long one, but please bare with me.... i need the help!!
I have a 1998 1.2 8v corsa b, bought it 2 weeks ago. last week i took it out for a good run out. on the return leg i got a load of steam from the bonnet from a split hose coming from the collant tank. Got that sorted and discovered it probably happened as the fan wasn't working. After buying a new heater fan switch, and still not getting any joy, i fiddled with a few wires and discovered that there was no earth... got that sorted and now the fan is up and running.

Took the motor out last night for another investigative run and after a steady run of about 3 miles at 40/45 mph i got the engine management light back on. sat stationary for 10 mins until the fan came on so ruled that out.
Tonight had a look at my diagnostic block and it's the 16 pin one. Connected up pins 5 and 6 and turned on ignition lights. Got a very stright forward ****_*** = Fault code 43. however... seems for the 16 pin block you need engine to be running, so i did!! I got a continuous flashing light for about 2 minutes. then i gave it a rev and the codes started coming through... thing is it was different from the original Fault Code 43... altough i ABSOLUTLEY no idea what it was. Went though it again and recorded it. i couldnt make heads or tails of it so i stopped recording after around 3 and a half mins.

please have a look and give your thoughts.... i could really do with an answer or even an opinion. Thanks a million!!!

slightly confused with this, because you say you have a 16pin connector which should be a 56.5 ecu
but im sure these wer only fitted to the newer 16v engines
but you say you have an 8v engine? so im really confused with this!
i tryed the video link it the flashes make no sence!

1st off double check what engine you have, if it looks like:
http://photo-zona.net/images/user31103/ ... _x12xe.jpg
you have a 16v

if it looks like:
http://data.motor-talk.de/data/gallerie ... -38603.jpg
you have an 8v

if you have a 1.2 16v engine these codes cannot be read by the paperclup test and will need an ecu diagnotic
if you do indeed have an 8v then it should have a 10 pin connection not 16

confused yet? i am!

on a 16 pin connection you should get 10 flashes for each 0
so for example

if its **********_*_*_********** this would be 0110
if you get *_*_**_********** this would be 1120

because the video jumps about i canr make sence of the codes so try double checking it

lol am i confused??! ... i almost feel like i should be locked up by now!

Thanks a million for the post with the engine pics, lets me confirm it is indeed an 8v. When i get in from work i'll take a pic of the Diagnostic block and do the vids again, both with the engine on and off.

Again, i really appreciate your reply, really want to get this sorted cus im getting very fond of my wee corsa!!

ok done it all again and i am now confident that im getting ****-*** x3 = faults code 43 - Linear EGR system....

Any ideas out there where to start with this? Is it different from changing/cleaning the EGR valve?

Again, thanks for the replies!!

i got that with m9, but it doesnt rele affect it,
does it go off again when you turn your engine off and back on?
you can clean it, theres a guide somewhere on here,
or you could just blank it off, so i've hear anyways
i've just left mine tho
