MAF Question

Post by PeaSXI »

Hi Guys,

Couple week ago i was having problems whilst on the motorway/higher speed roads.

I would be accellerating and the engine management light would come on, and would loose some power, i read that it could be the MAF, so took it off, and cleaned it up. Fitted it back and problems seemed to go away, no light came on.

But gradually it has been getting worse and worse again. Weird thing is it doesnt happen all the time, but it is a right pain when it does happen.

So my question, would i be best of buyin a new MAF and this problem will go, as from cleaning it up it did seem to work.

Or is there another sensor which is causing my problems?

Can't do the paperclip test as its a 1.2 16v.

Cheers.

cleaning the maf cud actually damage it, they are pritty fragile. i personally wud get a diogostics test done (bout £40) if you think cleaning the maf has fixed the problem it could simply need the ecu reset

(disconnecting the battery doesnt work)

a new MAF from vauxhall will cost u over £200 btw so i'd deffinatly get a diognostics test done first.

pretty certain it is the airflow meter - and when they break they break - cleaning aint gonna helop it much but cud make it stop in the short term like u described. Defo do not get one from vauxhall as they are a massive rip off and do not buy any generic crap of ebay or anything. there are some cheap offical bosch ones around on ebay for about 40-50 quid (last time i looked anyway) or go 2 ur local scrappy and get one for about 20 quid. just remember to only get a real vauxhall one made by bosch - its the same one for a 1.2 16 valve and 1.0 litre 12 valve if that helps :)

Yeah I bought a Bosch MAF from a local Andrew Page depot - £97 incl VAT. (However could have payed just over £70 if I could have waited via Ebay) ... It solved the problem for me (at least appears to) but now I can`t start up correctly :( (This is in another thread btw) I will be getting the ECU cleared next though.
