insurance declaration and the law
hey guys
a mate of mine got stopped by police for tailgating and overtaking on bends as well as irratic driving
they took his details and cross checked the insurance with their colleagues on walky talky.
they didnt mention mods but the officer said well you got urself a nice exhaust on there. bet that adds a few hp.
he also has non standard alloys tinted lights etc etc etc
why would they not pick up on this???

OFFICAL DVLA DATA:
1414 - corsa gsi's on the road in 2008.
735 - corsa gsi's currently on the road and 436 SORN
Basicly you would have to be a right tw*t to break one for parts
Thanks to everyone for an awsome weekend at pvs!

Re: insurance declaration and the law
the police only really check if your insured to drive the vehicle, (and that its road legal of course)
if you do have any ilegal mods then the police would say somthing
but not weather its declared or not because they wouldnt be coverd anyway

i have been stopped by the police on a regular basis and did my home work and you dont have to register all the mods ie alloys if you dont regester them you cant claim for them but it doesnt invalidate insurance they do like to pick at young drivers cars as they are an easy taget and get worrried
i got pulled by the plod when i had a friend in the car and he was also a copper he said nothing until they started too pick at the car then he popped up and said sometinhg then they went on there way
if your car has performance mods then you have to regester it but you cant claim for things that arnt regestered !

Re: insurance declaration and the law
most decent insurers wouldnt charge extra anyway
at the end of the day you pay thru the nose for insurance, but its there when you need it.
seems stupid paying £1000 to modify your car and not covering the mods
think of it like taking out a home insurance policy and not telling them you have a 52inch plasma TV home cinema system
if your house gets burglerized and your system gets nicked they are going to say... tough poo!

Re: insurance declaration and the law
most coppers are pretty sound about mods tbh - a lot of them have been there and done that when they were young (one of them that pulled me had a done up metro and another had a dun up nova b4 they became pigs). Most of the time they really only care if u drive well and ur car is legal.... most mods they aint interested in but if they do see some big stuff (eg engine conversion etc) then they wud get a bit more dubious.
In the end most insurers dont really care that much about minor mods, the only things they really care about is engine and suspension stuff. alloys, bodykits and lights etc dont really bother them as they wudnt be paying for them anyway if it got nicked

I think only the police can check if you assured to drive the vehicle. If you do have any illegal feel then the police can say something but not either it’s declared or not, it is just because they wouldn’t be covered anyway.
