corsa sri overheating

Post by locko_sri »

i drive a m reg 1.4 8v corsa b
when im driving it the car seems to heat up as you would expect, but it tends to get to about 100 degrees and somtimes hotter untill i switch the intirior fan on to cool it,
i have checked the rad witch seems fine, headgasket is ok , coolant is ok , oil level is a little to high and the car has got 10w 40 oil ? is that right?
but anyway i was wondering if this is commen ? can any one help because i realy dont want to fork out for a head gasket but i could never put a good corsa down (N)

does the fan turn itself on when the car gets walm? i had a 1.2 8v that never got over 90 degs, and now iv got a 1.4 16v and i was in the same boat i was like WTF is going on, and then through further inspection and refering to the haynes manual the first fan doesnt turn on until 100degs and the second at 105degs, but first make sure you fan works, take the plug of the temperature sensor at bottom of the radiator and push a piece of wire in and when you do this the fan should start up, might have to have the ignition on, if this doesnt work then your fan is nackered, now you know the fan works, start the car up, and let it get to 100degs if the fan doesnt kick in then you know its the sensor. its a bit of a weird one, because you (and me) will get so scared about how hot its getting up until the point you see the fan spinning then it all goes away  and you can relax

i pretty sure that the fan kicks in, it deffinatly works because i tried wiring the fan to the side lights and leaving it constantly on but this didnt help either, p.s. what is this secon fan you talk about? lol is that just on the 16 v ?
