Strange weight reduction question?

Post by Blackie »

Ok, I want to try this just cause I can, I am well aware that what I am suggesting/asking may not make any disearnable difference but I want to try it, so if you have nothing constructive to say, then don't post it!

I have a 1.2 16v corsa b, I want to keep the creature comforts, but in the interests of handling and possibly fuel economy I want to lighten the car where i can.

My plans are, replace the GM springs and shocks for uprated items, lighter/lightweight wheels, stickier road legal Tyres, loose the sub and uprate the standard speakers.

What else should I consider, without removing the creature comforts?

nothing you can really do if you want to keep seats and everything, get light weight bucket seats, remove sound deadenin but you get a really noisy ride, if you wanted to lose alot of weight you could strip the whole car which saves alot of weight, but you wont get noticable difference tbh, theres no point strippin it if its only a 1.2 mate

by sticking stickier tyres on your already creating more rolling resistance and therefore decreasing fuel economy, and to be honest you wont find coliovers much lighter than stock items untill you get mega expensive alluminium/alloy ones which are mostly made for all out race cars and are therefore stupidly stiff and completely un useable on the roads

you should atleast go for the lighter wheels if you can find some, also bucket seats (not halfords poo) can be lighter but tbh any reclining bucket seat isnt really a bucket seat and will still weigh over 10kg each, theres a company called plastics 4 performance that can make you a full 5 peice moulded poly carbonate window kit for your car for about £300

Thanks folks, when I say stickier Tyres, I ain't thinking about track Tyres, just thinking maybe better road Tyres that offer better grip. What I'm thinking is if I can carry more speed in the corners then in theory I could improve economy a little, ya know, without having to lift off, hit brakes and then build up speed again?

ok then if you want some things you can do, then here goes,
polycarbonate windows ALL ROUND,
fibreglass front wings,
fibreglass boot,
carbon fibre bonnet,
ultra light alloy wheels,
replace bottom wishbones with track rod ends and bars,
strip your interior and remove all of the sound deadening and then replace all your interior,
remove your sun roof and replace with polycarbonate sheet siliconed and screwed into place,
replace your seats with ultra light bucket seats and frames,
get some ultra light aluminium or titanium front and rear shocks,
remove your heater fan matrix and fan blower and replace with an electric fan/heater in place of the heater inlet so it can still access cold air to stop condensation.
and if you want to, remove your rear seats and make fibreglass replicas of the steel backing frames, and then mount your fabric back to them,
and with your doors since as you'l be having polly carb windows you'l have no need for window winders etc, so get your doorcards off and get all the winder mechanisms out and cut out all the strengthening plates etc and then replace your door cards,
remove your spare wheel and wheel well,

any more you want? but tbf theirs no point in doing ANY of this unless your making a track slag because why... lol
