Screeching

Post by elle100 »

I have a 15yo TDI and its started making a really hideous screeching sound for the first few minutes of driving, then its fine again. Had new brakes fitted about a month ago and this is when it started so I thought it was just them wearing in but its still going on and I do 250-350 miles a week. Someone told me it could be one of the belts but I thought that could only be the case if the noise was there when the car was stationary too. If it is one of the belts how many are there? I'm confused...it's my first car and I don't know anything so should I take it back to the people who did my brakes or give it some more time?

its eitehr your aux belt, which is a peice of piss, depends on what the belt is running, normally crankshaft runs the belt, to altenator, powersteering pump, and maybe the pump, never done a vaux diesel aux belt before so couldnt really tell you, just look at the drivers side of the engine down the side, youl see the belt and look to see how many pulleys there is, just take it to a garage and get the timing belt, water pump and aux belt done on it, then thatl be it so plenty of years to come
