Juddering Corsa

Post by danzuc »

Hi all, I just joined the forum and need some help. I bought a 1998 1.4 manual Corsa Breeze Hi Torq a few weeks ago with 70k miles and a few months MOT. Ive spent the last few weeks replacing and repairing various bits and pieces to make it nice but I cant seem to stop it from juddering when taking off from stand still. I have to rev it over 2k RPM and even then it will still sometimes shake a little. Ive noticed it seemed worse when I had two passengers in the back earlier this afternoon.

So far I have:

carb cleaned the air intake
replaced the airfilter and cleaned and drilled the airbox
replaced the fuel filter
replaced the HT leads
checked and cleaned the sparkplugs (looked in good condition already)
changed the oil and filter
run a course of Redex fuel treatment

At this stage Im guessing it may be a sensor causing the problem but I have no idea where to begin. If anyone has any ideas or similar experiences I would be grateful for a response. Apart from that Im kind of enjoying the car and find it easy to work on and cheap to do up. Will post some pictures once its had a good clean.

mine does the same mate, and sometimes when it gets to about 2k revs it seems to just die and then suddenly pic up again.

i've replaced alsorts and still have the problem.

clean carb
replaced carb and seal
idle control valve
mass air flow meter
Egr valve
cam shaft sensor
and done 101 things with no luck.

Basicly you would have to be a right tw*t to break one for parts

Thanks to everyone for an awsome weekend at pvs!

drive your car to your friendly vauxhall dealer and get them to see what version of software your ecu is running on as it should be checked and updated on a full service . vauxhall have boffins updating ecu programmes all day long and i bet yours has picked up a glitch and it cant cope with it (matt i will do yours for you next time you are down as i found out we have the gear to do it ) bonus

no what you do is re write the basic programme ,all the upgrades are written to iron out all the faults . i had the same sort of problem on a cdx vectra rough running and poor idle checked it out and it was 5 versions out of date ,put the latest version on it and it was totally differant

Cheers for the responses. Glad to hear Im not alone with this one. Was worried that I was going to end up replacing countless parts with no results. It was bad enough when I did all the changes and repairs and found it was quicker but still had the same fault. I will get onto the dealership and see what happens. I will post any further update.

Went to my local Vauxhall dealership this afternoon. Had a chat with one of the service bods who told me that I could only book the car in for an inspection at an hours rate of £89.30. I cant justify paying that in the hope it will find and cure my judder on take off. Does anyone know a specialist in the West Midlands area who could just interrogate the ECU and apply updates?

Also I have noticed that its fine when I first drive it from cold and there is a little hesitation under acceleration occasionally once warmed up. If Im really careful when pulling away I can stop it from juddering but I do have to rev it up to do so. Also its crap on fuel at the moment, I put £20 in the other day and with calm driving Ive used nearly half and only done 40 miles.

Thanks for all the advice. I think ive cracked it now as all seems well and I had passengers the other day with no juddering! I replaced the coil pack and reset the ECU and things seem much better. Hope the info is helpful to others.
