Tune the 1.6 or fit an XE & rebuild the other engine for
117.7bhp on a very \'generous\' RR session last week is what my 1.6 is currently pushing out... 110lb/ft Torque tho... I reckon more like 114bhp at most from my engine in reality!
Now...
I can tune the 1.6i up & spend a fair amount of money doing this, but then for the money I can spend to get about 135bhp out of the engine, I can get an XE & fit it in for the same price...
Insurance is the only doozy tho, as its costing enough with my 3 points as it is but they come off in January though
Also... trying to source a \'good\' XE is getting harder & harder for sensible money, might just buy a real rundown Cally 16v or Cav GSI 2000 or SRI 16v, and go from there... or even an old Astra GTE 16v...
So what do I do?
Answers on a postcard please

i had same problem trying to get a decent engine from an astra, thats why i went with a late vectra lump
go for the transplant, you know you wanna
only thing with the vectra is that they have a \'wasted spark ignition\' system. which means that the pulse for the rev counter isnt generated from the spark plug.... erm thingy (gone blank, cant remember what its called) it comes from ecu, so rev counter wont link in with it easily. i still havent got mine done
my insurance is £1186 with 3points not garaged at night (on driveway) although it will be garaged when i get it back.

Tune the 1.6. That would be my opinion.
Unless your planning serious spec 2.0 i would plough money into the 16xe

I\'d like to moderatley tune the 2.0 to start Teddy, say about 180bhp if possible! but for the first 6 months or so, will be standard(ish) except for manifold & such!
The 1.6 will be going into a stripped-out merit which I\'m getting my grubby-hands on soon enough (I hope)
punkheadgray - thats not too bad the insurance there, is that TPFT or FC??
I\'m 23 with 3 points & 0NCB (no accidents, just not insured a car for 2 years prior to the GSi)

Stick with the 1.6 and tune it up to 150 (not difficult) look at Marks car it rips for near on 140bhp.
The weight of the \"normal\" xe would cancel the power advantage out.

true true!!
Katie, glad the offer for bits is still on from you but I may be needing a few more bits (exhaust manifold & head)
reckon it be easier if I drive down & pick it up or meet halfway somewhere??

With regards to the head.... U can have it but its fooked... U\'d have to sort out valve stem oil seals/valve stems/ piston rings ( not sure what it is) the zaust manifold... I dunno.... Does it come off when i change ma engine?? (sorry completely stoopid)

hmmm yeah true... the exhaust manifold will probs be swapped over!
What exactly happened? did it slip a few notches on the cambelt or something??
Either way, head will be stripped, dipped & polished

fully comp, im 22 had one accident, 3points for going threw a traffic light.
when i phoned up about insuring her again, they said it\'d be about the same. bonus! and i have ALL my mods listed, use it for work and have my mileage at 12k a yr
that was with highway, threw adrian flux
yeah everyone does do the 2.0l but with good reason, the weight of it easily outweighed by its power! for the power you gain its well worth sticking one in!
