Thinking about inserting a 1.6

Post by Kerrmit1992 »

Hi there guys,

Sometime next year im thinking about upgrading my cars engine, im thinking about a 1.6, can anyone give me advice?

Is it a bad idea to upgrade the rest of your car a bit at a time before you put in the engine, for example, save up and get the brakes done, then save up and get other bits and pieces done, i have already got suspension on it but i dont know what else needs upgraded?

What engine would be be best for this? i know theres a few types of 1.6's, and can you get new engines to fit the corsa b? because getting good old ones can be a nightmare?

Thanks
Craig

At the moment i have a 1.2 16v i dont want to put the 2L in it because i have so many friends who have had them fitted and it just destroys the car, they are in getting parts repaired all the time, im going to get the engine fitted proffesionally tho, its not gna be a DIY job, and a 1.6 will be slightly cheaper to run too but still fairly quick :)

how about the x16xe.

If you can afford the brake conversion at the same time I would just get it all done at the same time if not then I would deffo upgrade the brakes 1st. You may also need to get some welding done to strengthen the car aswel

I have never known them destroy a car like bluecorsab said. My mate has just put a 2l redtop in his nova and it looks and drives amazing with no problems. He spent quite abit on welding to strengthen the chassis, other than that it was pretty straight forward. With the know how, the right tools and some confidence it can be done in a weekend easy, if you know what your doing, a day

as for welding the shell to strengthen it there is no need as the standard corsa shell is well strong enough unless you are going to turbo it . people seem to think you have to go down the same route as you did with the nova but its not the case as a rotten corsa is still stronger than a nova ever was

no mine isnt a redtop its a x20xev, and you cant get a redtop new to be honest unless you brougth one from a specialist that had a factory rebuild, thats why i chose the engine i did as its newer

thats why everyone who wants a redtop buys one thats complete, strips them down and re-builds them from the bottom up.
