Help with noise?

Post by beano4390 »

So I have a corsa 1.2 1999 sxi... Recently has started making a horrid noise kinda sounds like a whining, grinding kinda noise.. It sounds like it coming from engine bay.. So I had a look and can't see owt (I only no the basics about a engine).. Anyway I was driving to work today and noticed that the noise gets louder an faster the faster I go, but if I push in the clutch in the noise stops..

This says to me it either summat in clutch or gearbox but what? Someone has said to me clutch release bearing could this be so??

Little bit of extra info I do sometyms but not always struggle to get car into first or reverse... And sometyms pulling off from a junction or lights I will start to move and then the car will jolt and struggle to move feels like breaks slammed on or put clutch back down quick.. Only last a few seconds thou and then car moves as fine, has never happened while already moving..

HELP PLEASE !!!

Cool thanks for your replies.. I gonna ring my local mechanic later and see if he agrees with it being bearings and when he myt be able to do it.. Am i right in saying then that gearbox has to be moved to get to the bearing? Any idea roughly how much it gonna cost me? And anything else I should get him to do while he there? Cheers

Little update and another question... Car has been into garage today they took it for a drive and had a listen and they have told me they think it's the gearbox on it's way out.. ( gonna get a different garaga to have a look aswell thou to get several opinions cause you have all said thrust bearing and so have a few other ppl)

So question anyone have an idea on how much to have one reconditioned as Ive decided it's either that or a used one.. I can't afford brand new and car isn't worth brand new would cost more than the car did... Lol..

Also how much do you all reckon car would be worth in current condition..

Im Considering part x'in... I've seen a 2001 corsa c 1.2 sxi 54k on clock full service history 1 woman owner and loads more
Stuff £1890 ( is that good?)
