the xev is a more modern version of the redtop it maybe a few bhp down on the redtop depending on what car it comes out of ,as for being thrashed to death its not always true. for an engine just find a vectra as you dont see many oldies burning rubber from traffic lights do you

moat vectras run 288mm 5 stud setup but you can get them redrilled to fit on a corsa, but if your lucky and find an early 4 stud vectra they will have the same breaks but in 4 stud, but personally i think 288mm is a bit big for a corsa on a standard master cylindar because they go a bit spongy, i would stick to 256mm off an astra gte, cavalier gsi, astra mk3 gsi etc
if you need any help mate just ask as ive put a x20xev in mine and its not a very common conversion so im willing to help if you need it

if you dont want a redtop then the x16xe (1.6 corsa GSI engine) is a good choice for you as it will pretty much just bolt straight in without MAJOR amounts of wiring. and they are definetly powerfull enough to give a little corsa a boot up the arse and no extra strengthening required. i had the x16xe in mine for long enough before moving on to the x20xe and obviously the 20xe is quicker but for simple road use the x16xe is ample and an easy option.
