Interesting fault

Post by scoops »

i'll give u the full story so u know where it's up to.

Car had been runing like a bag of poo..engine light on under hard acceleration ..ah-haa i thought ..MAF, but never actually got around to replacing it.

Then the other day i switched the engine off while warm and restarted and the engine light stayed on...this was a bit of a new one as previously the engine ligth always went off when u easd off the pedal..thsi bugger stayed on. i htougth deffo tie for a new maf, it must be nearly dead.

So one siney new map later and fook me..what a diference..drives like a dream...however the next day o nthe way to work, engine light popped on and stayed on...but car still drove fine..bizzare.

So had a lil think and thought, ok must have been 2 faults...maf has cured one, but theres still one lurking....so yesterday i rpelaced the engine temp sensor.... again seems to have made the drivability and idle slightly better, hwoever agai ntoday while on a trip to asda at lunch, restarting the car while warm and the engine light was back on.

so i appear to have a problem where whenever i start the car from arm, i gget the engine light on..and it stays on...until i switch off and the car cools...very strange..

i've seen simialar issues associaed to the EGR.... does anyoen knwo exactly how its supposed to work? what revs/temps does it open or close etc? might whip it off this weekend and give it a clean.

All thoguhts gratefully received.

Cheers

Have you cleared the fault codes stored in the ecu, or it will still keep showing (I think)

sometimes the faults just stay stored and the light will go off or other times the light stays on

i was told to unplug the battery for an hour

instead i bought myself a diagnostics tool :L
