corsa 1.4 Linear Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) position

Post by Cl2 RSA B »

Im getting error code 47 flagged up on my '94 corsa 1.4 gls x14xe engine, causing the engine management light to stay on.
According to the vehicle diagnostics system, 47 is the "Linear exhaust gas re-circulation (EGR) position" is the reading my mechanic is getting.

Anyone know what this fault is and how to fix it? Does this mean the egr valve needs replaced? how much and where from??
cheers!

right you've got the same as me,
all the EGR valve does is opens and closes to let gases back into the engine,
these gases are not realy needed,
also i think you will find before the light comes on the car will struggle like its goin to miss fire, them the light will come on,
then mine runs mint, seems to be alot more respoonsive to the acelerator,
my light used to come on afer a longish drive then go off again soon as i turn it off and back on,
butnow i think its total nackered and it comes on soon as it starts up and ticked over for about 10 seconds,
you can take them off and clean them, there is aguide in the help section, but i just brought a plate to blank it off cost me £3or 4 off ebay, not had time fit it yet tho, but i hear they help alot, its a common fault with any vauxhall you will find,

before you go and take it off tho, make sure you have a gasket, unless your putting a blanker in,

i'll let you know how mine is when fitted

the light normally comes on because the gate letting all the burnt exhaust gasses usually gets stuck and sometimes that leads to all the burnt gasses going straight back into the combustion process again and the lamba sensor will detect this.
