Spraying Wheel trims??

My standard wheel trims arent in bad condition and i cant afford alloys atm so i figured maybe spraying them black? My cars silver but i've kept everything on it black and silver. Do i need to sand them down because a woman in halfords told me not to. Also what colour primer do i need to use? I was told grey but i dont have a clue....

dont have to sand them down.. jus clean them with something like thinners or white spirit to remove any greese, then primer them, if ur using a dark color like black then use grey primer, if ur doing them a light color use white primer, then put ur paint on, n then ur laqure if ur using it.
