Gearbox? Help needed

Post by beano4390 »

I have been told the gearbox is on its way out in my car and so was wondering Can anyone tell me what the gearbox code for my car is? (1999 1.2 16v sxi) or even where I would find the code.. Also what gearboxs will fit my car? I looking at getting a seconds hand gearbox or even having myn reconditioned anyone got a idea how much either option would cost?

Any help would be great cheers

my guess would be that your car has a f13 closr ratio box on it, i have a f15 from a corsa sport that i dont need if you want it and will bolt straight on yours

Ok so I a bit thick when it comes to this! If I had the f15 gearbox of you what difference will it make to the car.. I no my car is only a 1.2 so there isn't gonna be any major gain but what difference will it make? Also how much are you looking for your box m8??

I still looking into reconditing myn at the moment but money is the problem..

if I do have gearbox reconditioned can I changed the gear ratios so get summat like quicker acceleration or can they only but the same gears into the box?

they could probably change the ratios yes but then it gets a bit more expensive, the f15 i have will have slightly longer ratios so it will be a bit better on fuel at cruising speed bacuase the revs will be lower, only looking for £40 for the f15

So with that box it will have a higher top end then? Does that mean thou a slower acceleration..

What mileage has the box done? Presuming it was running ok before removal from the car... I getting a quote tomorrow for a recon so will let ya know asap.. Would ya also be able to post?
