Help is the garage conning me? Clutch pedal Corsa Diesel

Post by cyber__killer »

Hi people, could you please shed any light on my wee little Corsa problem. Basically he clutch cable when i got the car was stretched/worn out. So i had a new one fitted :) the thing is today on my way to university the top of the clutch pedal snapped aswell as the clutch cable. I Got another clutch cable fitted but the garage fitting it was having a field day, trying to tell me i need a new clutch. Anyway they told me my new clutch cable will snap to?? When i got car back now after new cable i have found my pedal seems stiffer than it was really springy and biting quite high up?? ( it wasn’t high up first) Could they have over tightened my new cable or something? I also have googled this and found quite a few people with broken clutch pedals on the internet on Corsa B’s ( few say because it is plastic at top its 2 weak). So is this a common fault? Which i should ignore or should I get a new clutch.

Thanks
CK

Surely if you think it's been overtightened you could just slacken it off a bit in the engine bay and see if it improves things?

if you are streatching cables and breaking clutch pedals then its plain to see you have got a real problem ,just have a bit of a think as to whats causing the problem as the clutch operation is really simple and basic for instance all you are doing is moving the clutch release bearing to push onto the pressure plateto disengage the pressure on the drive plate .so basically you have only 2 things to check firstly disconnect the cable at the gearbox and make sure the arm is free to move ,my guess is the pressure plate is knackered and the only answer is to fit a new clutch . you dont mention how many miles your car has done or what sort of driving its doing ie town or motorway as town driving with your foot on the clutch in traffic is whats killed it in the first place

Its done 85k and all motorway with me really. It had done 74k when i bought it a few months ago. Is there any guides on how to fit the clutch? or anyone got any instructions? I have done things like, axles, suspension, brakes, wheel bearings before. but never a clutch... I used to do all my own work a few years ago but stopped when i moved in to a high street ( no drive) but would still attempt more expensive jobs if i think i can do it. as i could do it on my mums drive.

Thanks

just purchase a haynes manual mate other than that a half decant tool kit and a jack to support the engine and the rest is easy ,even laying on your back it wont take more than a few hours to do

same just happened to mine it snapped the cable 2 months ago then i changed it and was tight and it just snapped again basicly dont change your clutch the problem is the pedal common fault the plastic clip on the pedal that holds the cable gets really worn and 1 side normally bends right over or is not solid plastic because of wear you need to replace the pedal vauxhall know about this and have modded the pedal it now has a metal part instead of plastic ordered mine today £35.00 do this adjust your pedal to just slightly higher than the brake pedal and your all sorted
