Hi,
A few weeks ago my gears were extremely stiff to put into gear so I took the car to a garage who adjusted the clutch cable under the bonnet and as a result the clutch was much higher.
The problem was that because the clutch had become lower due to the clutch cable, the clutch wasnt fully disengaging when trying to change gears.
The clutch has now returned to the position before and the gears are becoming stiffer again.
Would anybody be able to explain how to do what the garage did? They literally took about 5 seconds and it was sorted.
Thanks for any replies
Sam

Re: Clutch Cable
On my 1 litre if you open the bonnet and then looking from the front of the engine to the back on the right hand side (passenger side of the car) about 1/3rd of the way in there will be a cable coming into a bracket from the back of the engine / passenger bulkhead. You want to tighten the cable as the cable stretches so you are taking out the slack. You do this by winding the adjuster towards the bulkhead so you have more cable after the adjuster towards the front of the engine.
Im not sure why you would have to do this again so soon after the garage - perhaps teh adjustment nut is slipping? Have a look anyway and see what you see.
Also top tip is to wrap a bit of tape round the cable before you start adjusting so you can always put it back how it was before you started if you make things worse...

Re: Clutch Cable
If the nut is slipping then its worth getting another one and tightening it up next to the excisting one - having the two together stops them slipping a lot of the time. You will know if you tighten it up and it slips again. Probably not worth doing until you know its slipping though.
As for the forum - its good isnt it? I wouldnt have done half the stuff I have attempted without this forum - its at least as good as my haynes manual!

Re: Clutch Cable
Hi can I ask what you did to sort it? As once again I'm having the same problem as you!
I adjusted the clutch cable but a week later it was back to what it was before -- when I turn the adjusting nut it rotates till I let go and spins it back to what it was at before. Is this normal?
There's a small retaining clip but I have no idea where it goes, if anyone else knows then please let me know!! Thank you!
