problem with my dads car

ano this is a corsa forum but my dad has not long since baught a vectra its a 51 reg 2.2sri 150 and he broke down at the weekend the cars symptons are the car will start up but wont rev up and its burning alot of oil just woundering if this is a common fault with this engine or not the car has just had the timing chains replaced before he got the car and its currently got 117000 thousand miles on the clock with full service history any help with what it could be would be gr8
