White smoke smelling of petrol

So just to start with an I.D... she's a 1996 1.4 16v.

When I first start it up, she blows white smoke that has a petrol smell to it. The engine is sounding kinda grumpy too.

I'm going to change the spark plugs and the air filter and do an oil change this coming weekend but I'm a touch concerned that it might be something a bit more serious. Does anyone have any experience or ideas as to what it may be?
