Cigarette Lighter not charging anything

Hello Peeps,

I bought my 1.2 corsa merit and it didn't have a cigarette lighter in it. I bought one from Halfords and fitted it with no problems. I ran it directly from the battery with an inline fuse and it heats up the lighter part so you can light a cigarette, however when I plug in any kind of charger e.g my iphone charger i don't get any lights on it (the charger that is) and it doesn't charge my phone.

can anyone help me? is there different types of lighter sockets for just lighters or do all charge things?

cant see why it wudnt work unless it wasnt getting enough juice to charge stuff up or something, i personally wud go to a scrap yard and get an ash try with the ligher already in and wire tht in tbh.

Could it be that the charger isn't sitting in it properly? i'm not 100% sure it's touching the bottom base place and I don't have any other car chargers to test this with.
I fitted the lighter myself, runs directly from the battery with an inline fuse. My car had an ashtry and I took it out as don't use it... I keep my sunglasses in it lol.
