Oil Pressure Light

Post by ianinnes »

This '99 Corsa 1.2 16V oil pressure light is flickering at below 1200 revs when engine is warm.
Recently a mechanic mate and I changed the timing chain, fitted new oil pump & water pump, new big end bearings and cleaned out the sump. The damn oil pressure light is now coming on. Have tried 3 different oil pressure switches, but still the same.
Anyone any ideas?

Oil changed after all above repairs carried out. Used 20W40 semi-synthetic.

you could try mounting an oil pressure gauge onto where your pressure fitting goes on and manually see what oil pressure your getting, i guess that would then give you a visual on what oil pressure you are running, therefore if it looks enough then i guess their shouldn't be a worry, what it could be is a bad connection somewhere, because everything you'v changed is what could / would be causing the oil light to come on, so apart from those things i dont know what else could be causing the light to show, what mileage is on the clock? what you could try doing is using a thicker oil to take up any clearances.

The cars done 99k. I try to change the oil March/April and Sept/Oct so I will change to a thicker oil. Perhaps a 20w50 will do ?
