Ok, im no expert but by the sounds of it, u don't have the required equipment to to this, so i suggest you get a puller as this is the right equipment for the job

i hate to sound stupid here but whats a puller?

i've taken my steering wheel off before, if i remember correctly just pulled out the horn push thing, and there was a bolt behind it that i needed to undo, and that was it, i don't have an airbag so might be different.

i've just checked my haynes max power manual for corsas, they say that if you have an airbag in your car you'll need a puller, just be careful to keep the bolt on a bit so the wheel doesn't come flying off, apparantly its a special puller for the car, an ordinary one won't work, but im just quoting haynes max power there.

From what I've heard it's possible to do it without a puller (by pulling very hard), but I was once told by someone at a garage that the design of the steering wheel (and how it is attached to the column) means that just yanking it can cause damage to the steering column itself (as it's designed to collapse in the event of a crash).

So personally, I'd just a puller.

And a puller is, as far as I'm aware, a device that has two protuding attachments that fit in holes either side of the main nut and loosen something so the wheel comes off. Hopefully someone can add to my vague description there (somebody who perhaps has a better idea?) aha.
