corsa 1.0 egr problems

Post by dom_172 »

ok i had a warning light on the dash so i plugged in the opcom and it was telling me egr valve wrong signal, so i took it off and cleaned it out with carb cleaner and petrol then put it back on using the old gasket, when i started the car the light had gone out but it was smoking out the exhaust quite heavily (white smoke like coolant burning) it gets worse when the engine is revved. i guess this was because the coolant was leaking into the cylinders through the egr because i used the old gasket.

i went and got a new egr gasket and put that on and its still doing the same but now the header tank boils over after the fan cuts in.

i think i might have an airlock in the coolant system but then again it seems like the head gasket could have gone but theres no water in the oil...

anyone got any suggestions?

thanks, Dom

when you refilled your coolant did you do it properly and allow the system to bleed?
OFFICAL DVLA DATA:
1414 - corsa gsi's on the road in 2008.
735 - corsa gsi's currently on the road and 436 SORN
Basicly you would have to be a right tw*t to break one for parts

Thanks to everyone for an awsome weekend at pvs!

yep filled it slowly and left the cap off while running and topping up as needed.

just been out messing about with it and it doesnt overheat, had it running for 45 mins a mixture of idling and driving up to 45mph and when it gets to about 97 on the temp guage the fan kicks in and it goes back down to about 90 ish. its still kicking out steam although i dont think its losing any coolant and seems to be running fine.

forgot to mention the car has been sitting unused for about 3 months now and in all that snow we had, maybe a combination of that and using an old gasket first time i did the egr has left of water sitting in the exhaust?

i think possibly a motorway drive would clear the steam?
