yes it is supposed to come on when you put the inition on but go out almost straight away unless there is any faults recorded.chances are the bulb has gone or possibly loose, bit fiddly to get to replace but worth doing as a working eml is a good warning of any pottential problems before you get any major issues with your motor

that was meant to say the light should go out when you start your car to check or change the bulbs you need to remove the instrument cluster theres a guide on here somewhere but if you cant find that lots of info about google it,i find that the best way

It might have been removed by a previous owner! Like mine. Does anybody know which lampholder and bulb its supposed to be?

To remove the Instrument cluster:-
First remove the cowl from round the steering wheel.
Then remove the 3 screws in the cluster surround.
If its a speedo cable (earlier models only) then you will have to disconnect speedo cable from gearbox.
Remove two screws from bottom of cluster.
Pull out from bottom, you may have to release from a spring clip at the top.
Thread it out from behind steering wheel.
Job Done. And refitting is just the same in reverse.
