rear disc brake conversion

Post by Mobi »

Does anyone know if there's a certain type of Astra rear disc-caliper combo that has to be used on the Corsa when converting to rear disc? I've been told Astras use both Lucas & Bosch branded calipers, but I don't know if theyre different in any way....
I'm asking because I can pick up some new Astra (Lucas brand) rear calipers for next to nothing & Chris Astley's dropped the price of the plates. I guess some sort of tutorial or guide would be helpful too.

I've actually changed my mind about the rear discs, i'm now thinking Combo rear drums (bigger surface area).
That way I save a load of cash, but still have more balanced braking. This is for the 5 door by the way.
I guess i'm just investigating everything that can be done to it, i'm even thinking of uprated pistons/rings for a turbo conversion down the track when money isnt so tight. :D

These are good brand of brake disc and calipers. I think it would really look good on your corsa. I have to say that brake disc conversion are really somewhat expensive compare to the combo rear drums you have done but for me, the brake disc are really worth buying for if you really have the cash. :)

there not that expensive. if you get a astra rear axle with all items on it then all you need to do it replace your ones with the astra ones and obv the mounting plate etc but shouldnt be too expensive to do. some people have put brake bias in there car as sometimes the rear discs lock up but some people have never had problems with them. check migweb and corsasport for guides etc

right, you need the rear beam of an Astra MK3 GSI as this is the only one that really fits easily  the hardest bit is trying to find one :meh: but iv managed to :D, then you need to strip both rear beams down, and either buy of ebay some 2.0 hub conversion brackets or cut the ones of the Astra one, then cut the adaptor of the corsa rear beam and then weld the Astra one to it. Then you need to drill the holes through the Astra bracket into the corsa rear beam as the holes dont line up. then just bolt everything up on the corsa rear beam, i think the best way would be to remove ANY rear brake bias valves and brackets you may have on your car and just connect the main pipes straight up to the rear beam. as for hand brake cables thats a trial and error thing i believe, i havent managed to find people saying to get specific ones, you have to use like one side of a corsa, one side astra, or one nova and one astra or something. its reall weird :?
