Re: corsa 1.0 average MPG
I have this engine and from
£20 at 129.1 p/L I get somewhere around 150-160 miles (if I decide to drive like a pensioner) If I hammer it to
Actually get somewhere it drops to about 130-140 miles. I don't think that's too bad?

Re: corsa 1.0 average MPG
Ive got a 1998 1.0 merit- no extras so less weight I usually get about 220-230 miles to 30 quid, petrols about 130/litre round here.
(I'm not driving like a pensioner either, 25 in 1st, 45 in second lol)
If its redlining at 85, you sure you're not in 4th?

Re: corsa 1.0 average MPG
What do you reckon could be wrong with mine? its been serviced 3000miles ish ago..
Also when i got my clutch replaced the guy at the garage checked on the ecu machine, what faults there were, the one he said could do with a clean or replacement was the EGR Valve, i understand its for recycling the gas emissions, he said this is why my car shudders for the first like minute the car starts in the morning, but would this effect my speed later on? When am driving fine at a higer speed, also my car does idle abit high when the engines 1st on goes right to 3000revs then dies down to 1500.. am guessing this just the idle control valve again this wouldnt effect my speed later on anyway..
ANY IDEAS ?
THANKS

Re: corsa 1.0 average MPG
got given a half day at work so decided to give it a go!
took it out, 2 of the bolts abit orqward to get at! but done with in no time, disconnect the coolant and 2 electrical connects, took it off and left it to soak in some carb cleaner, for a good couple hours, then drained it off, and scrubbed like mad with a toothbrush (old one) lol and then in warm rinsed off in some cold water..
I WOULD recommend you get a new gasket for it, only £2.69 from the vauxhaull dealer, because the old one abit bent and poo, so best for new one, i then reassembled it together, and filled back up with coolant, and started my engine, first off it started and cut out! got a bit scared lol.
Then re started and aload of white smoke came out exhaust, then it died down, so decided to take it for a drive! white smoke for a about 5mins, not sure why, but then after that it was, fine!
So decided to pull over on an empty longish road, and floored it, 1st fine 2nd fine, and 3rd (where normally loose the power wen put foot down) it was great!! and same with 4th and 5th, i reckon if road was longer it would have gone faster than my previous top speed of 82mph lol, i recommend any1 having same problems as me, try it you will be surprised with the result!
THANK YOU FORUM GUIDE FOR YOUR HELP! also for people thinking about blocking them off yeh its fine to do so, but you will need to go to vauxhall to get the car remapped or your engine management light will stay on because it will detect nothing is going through the pipe.
