Testing the cooling fan

The other day I was sitting in traffic and I noticed the temperature gauge rising quite a bit and then the car overheated due to the cooling fan not kicking in. I have since had to replace the radiator, cooling fan switch and i'm not sure about the thermostat.

The radiator now has a crack down the side of it due to over pressurisation.

Is there any way i can test the cooling fan without turning the engine on to see if it still works or not as i cannot keep affording to buy a new radiator each time as this i my third. First time i had an accident which was the cause of it.

I think the only way to test is to rev the engine, if it doesn't kick in at 100 degrees then turn the engine off. You shouldn't do any damage as long as it doesn't get past 100-105.

If it still doesn't kick in then sounds like a broken thermostat or the cooling fan itself (since you have had the switch replaced).

If still unsure then best go to a garage, I'm sure somebody will take a look at it free of charge.

you can frig the switch by just shorting the connectors out that plug onto the water sensor on the radiator and this will in turn start your fan.

Thanks for the help, i think my best best is to take it to the garage. They've done a lot of work on my car before so they know me there. I also don't believe it is the thermostat, however if it does turn out to be the problem, i have a spare one i bought when placing the order for the radiator.
