Fitting footwell LEDS.

Post by VicVaega »

Hey there all,
I've recently gotten the modding bug and would like to take full advantage of it.

I've bought some LED strips to fit in my footwells on my corsa b.
I also bought somethings called Posi-taps where are supposedly designed to eliminate the need to chop a wire and solder, handy since I have no electrical skills or experience.

The LEDs are 12v and come with a positive and negative from what I can tell. I can sucessfully wire them up to the interior light (via the actual light socket, prying the light out and connecting the cables behind the bulb) but when I try to connect them to the door switches, I only meet failure.

My idea was to wire each LED strip up to each door so that when the drivers door is open, so is the drivers LED. Passenger door = passenger LED.

I've undone the screw on the door switch (on the metal part of the frame, the button the lets the interior light come on or go off, depending on if the door is open or not) and tried wiring up the positive to the blue wire and the negative to the grey wire. This doesnt work.

I then removed the casing in the drivers footwell and found a whole mess of wires and then the same on the passengers side as well.

My question is, if anyone would be so kind to help me, is which wiring can I use to wire these bad boys in?
I'm assuming that I had the blue wire correct, but the grey I think might just be a switch, I honestly have no clue.

What wires can I use to make this happen? There seems to be like 20 to choose from and I very much doubt I'll get it first time.

go to your fuse box go to fuse 1 its a 20 amp one then follow wires from back then see where they split to interior light or to doors which ever and wire them into the power and negative wires
If in doubt, flat out

Might be easier to use the little plunger which earths and complete's the light circuit when you open the door just find a constant 12v or ignition 12v and use the plunger as a negative.
