Engine managment light 1.2 16v

Post by pinty1990 »

hi
got a bit of a wierd problem with my corsa atm aint got a clue what it could be. my car starts fine every time and runs like a watch however when i get up to about 2500 - 3000 revs my car has a quick jerk and slows down and the engine management light comes on, the car will stay at a constant speed but doesnt really wanna go any faster. if i take my foot off the accelerator and give it a break the light will go off and it will drive fine. this also happens when i go up hills on occasions, i think it tends to be when the engine is put under a bit of strain (basically its lazy)lol

i have changed the egr valve and that is now fine and had a couple of tests done and the MAF is fine as well,

any help would be appreciated :D

Sounds very much like a MAF fault... Have you tried a run around the block with it unplugged? Or if you have acess to another one to try?

it would be fine to try running it around with the MAF unplugged would it?
i aint tried that yet but il give it a go as long as it doesnt do anything else to it lol

i did buy a new maf to try it out but turns out i had bigger problems putting that one on cause the new one was faulty, as soon as i chucked my old one back on it was running ok again lol so i dont think its that but i might try run it around the block without it on like you said :)

Yeah justa quick run. It will run quite rough without one but you'll be able to see if the problems gone. This is what i did to diagnose mine, with very similar symptoms to yours!

Let us know how you get on! :-)

i gave it a try around the block but i dunno what to make of it, it did seem better, so i put it back on to compare it and the car was running fine then lol, but later tonight it was the worst it has ever been for no reason just constant pausing up hills on flats lol. sometimes it ends up running like a dream and i only get the odd pause and other times its like taking a ride on a kangaroo lol. only problem is a diagnostics wont work cause it aint saving the fault.

dunno what step i should take next :S
thanks for the help though :D

have you taken it mechanics so they can plug it in and get it up on the screen? and to change the engines pretty simple haha i wouldnt do it for the sake of a light tho just pull out the fuse that makes the light come on haha

Checked leads, plugs, air filter etc? Could be something really obvious! Usually the case after weeks of wondering lol

It sounds like the MAF sensor. I had exactly the same problem, sometimes it would run ok, but like yours it would just start playing up. I took mine to someone who put it on a diagnostic machine and it came up there was a fault with the lambda sensor, I changed it but that made no difference, still had problems with engine management light coming on when I got to a certain speed, losing power and kangerooing.

I asked on here and a few people replied that it was the MAF. I got one off ebay for about £30, and its run great ever since.

Definitely air flow meter as every post prior to mine describes how mine behaved
when mine died.

Apparently the best way to check the MAF is to disconnect it. With the MAF disconnected it should run fine, It will just over fuel it if anything but will not cause any damage. If on disconnecting it the car runs better then this is definitely the problem. If there is no difference then you need to look at something else.
