painting the bumpers and trim . . .

Post by spud brasso »

myself and my dad had a heated discusion on me spraying my trim and bumpers, i know i can do it as iv got some spare trim from another B and played with it.
primer then top coat (two or three) and it turned out fine.
if there is anyone out there who has done it please could i have a few tips?
+ the old man thinks it will peal off once i step out the front drive? would i need to put anything else on it to stop it pealing or is it just going to happen?

after getting an hour n half away from home last tuesday, the wheel bearings went (scaring the hell out of me whilst doing 69mph on the A55) i had to fix it on a little chef car park, all round 450 mile trip i want to treat her and getting rid of the grey bits.
hope some one could help :D

you should be ok as long as you use plastic primer that you can get from halfords etc, as thats designed to stick to plastic, then the paint should stick to the primer obviously, but that should stop or at least reduce the risk of pealing,

wen i done mine, i just coverd my car in paper and masking tape, and yeh as pricer said, plastic primer, then black top coat, and get some clear lacquer, this is what gives paint work a shine, and give it about 3 coats its what mainly protects it, and give it a nice shineyyy finish 8)

U should have proper primer on top of plastic primer, it will be a lot smoother, and paint has more grip on. So it won't peel unless u don't flat it down properly

i think that normal primer on top of the plastic primer is a good idea tbh, just wondering what colours you doing the trim? i got a arden blue corsa and i saw in total vauxhall a old nova which was sprayed arden blue and had sprayed the bumpers metallic grey which really suited the colour
