go to your local motorfactors mate they should be able to get you one piece of piss, its called the alternator belt, should only be like £6 or summut, shouldnt be much, but if you have any air con or hydraulic power steering aswell then make sure you mention it to the bloke as they came in different lengths due to how much extras came on the car.

shouldnt be, it depends what type yours is, if its the normal v belt you have to slacken the alternator bracket, bit fidley but not hard, if its the multi v belt (about 1inch wide) then really easy as its just twist the auto tensioner and pull off and twist and put on, but if it goes around the one engine mount like it does on my 1.4 16v, then you'l have to split the one engine mount to wiggle your belt off, best to look at your belt and see if it well, can be got of easily...

iv never had to replace mine yet, but best thing is well get a jack under your engine, and jack up slightly until is starts to lift, and try and remove the engine mount bolts on the wing and see if it will just split enough for you to be able to slide the old belt out and a new belt in, other than that there isnt alot else you can do... you could try just removing it from your pulleys first and check your alternator still turns actually as that might be seizing up which is causing the squealing... but means as you said the belt was all twisted it probably is just the belt being old, try removing it and straightening it and putting it back on, you never know that might just solve the problem.
