1.1 or 1.5 derv?

Post by Josho »

So I have the option of buying a fully working 1.5 diesel for 250 or a free 1.1 with headgasket issues. I'm an apprentice mechanic and the headgasket is easy job. But i need a cheap car for a few months while I respray and upgrade the engine in my Golf.

What would you go for? The diesel be good MPG?

Cheers! :)

get the diesel i'd guess, the headgasket on the 1.1 could mean trouble, your better of going for the better car out of the two, but if you can gte the 1.1 for free then weigh it in as that on its own would pretty much pay for the diesel corsa. thats the best way means as you already have another car waiting .

1.5 sold. :'(

1.1 had a look tonight, auto. -_- 84K but free.

Dunno whether to or not, or spend 500 on a decent one on eBay but I only wanted a run around.

Right some news. The other Corsa wasn't a 1.1 it's a 1.4 GLS Auto, which according to Parkers has 88BHP and 12 seconds to 60. Not TOOOO bad, could live with.

Was driven with low water, headgasket seems to be the issue.

Done 80K, I'm going to get it and just do it up. It's old and tatty but meh, it's a run around for a few months and it's TOTALLY gonna turn into a project after. :D
