Wheel + handbrake help

Post by LSKSK »

Ok, so my 1999 T reg corsa envoy rear wheels are making a humming noise and i was told it was my bearings, but i took them out and nothing looked worn, so i greased them up and put them back in but the humming is still there.

I am convinced it is my wheels because the noise volume is relevant to the speed.

Any ideas?
Also, how much are corsa b bearings?

Also, if anyone has info on how to tighten up the handbrake it would be a great help because i dont know if i was tightening the right screw. So i left it alone.

how did you check the bearings? did you rotate the bearings in your hands? if they sound like a pocket of change when you spin them round then the damage is done and you need new ones.

the adjuster above the rear axel doesnt adjust how far the shoes are away from the drum it just adjusts how tight the cable is.

you need to take the drums off and there an adjuster between the two shoes that you need to wind to change the gap between the shoes and the drum.

humming noise will be the bearings i'd say - there cheap anyway.

Replaced my bearing 6 months ago and seem to remember they were in the region of £10 each. They needed doing for the MOT and it was cheaper to replace both than the cost of a retest on the MOT. obviously quietened it down no end.
Malc.

Just checked the receipt £9.75 each.
