1.0 12v Couple of probs

Post by bewa »

Hi!

I've got two problems with my W reg corsa (X10XE).

First problem is when i do a cold start the engine will start up and for the first 2-3mins will try and stall, it does sound like a misfire almost! I don't use the throttle to compensate or anything.

The second issue is that regardless of what gear the engine will get a flat spot if i try and accelerate too much, if i dont get off the throttle the EML will come on!

I've just ordered a AFM in the hope that this is what will fix both issues!

Is this the right course of action?

thanks in advance for you help!

hi mate , i bought a 1.0 12v cheap just the other day and was running like a bag just as you have explained and i have mates who are mechanics and auto electricians so i found out what the problem was straight away i removed the clip from the afm and it has stoped the problems ie trying to die and spluttering .. so you have done the right thing by getting a new afm :D

stick a flat headed screwdriver in the gap and it will come off. if it is really tight goin back on. just use pliers

ok so i replaced the AFM no problems!
started up the car and much better than what it used to be but on a test drive when when putting the clutch in the rev's come down the car tries to stall the battery light flickers. it did while coasting stall with the engine warning light and the battery light. started up and while moving forward the revs fluctuate like it was trying to stall unless i used throttle. i also noticed a slight hesitation in 3rd around 30mph.

suggestions?

Sounds to me like an idle control problem, Might want to look at getting an idle control switch.

Had similar on mine, turned out to be the EGR( exhaust gas recirculation) valve. After I cleaned that it was much better but better still when it was blanked off.
It would be a great help to you if you could get somebody with a EOBD reader to plug in and see exactly what you engine management computer says.

I do have another issue now.

Starting up for the first time is now fine and if its been sitting for over 6hrs is fine as well
however if i do a journey and then come back to the car 5-10-15mins and start the car it takes 3-4 seconds to start.
any ideas why that would be?
I've got some spark plugs to fit, is it likely to be those?
the car seems fine to drive in general just the starting up again after i've just used it.

crankshaft sensor could be on its way out.
its located at the back of the engine block just above the sump.

Crankshaft sensors suffer from heat soak and then start to fail. As they cool down they will start to work again. this problem will get worse until the car cuts out when it gets warm and wont start until the engine has cooled down again. This can be 10-30 mins.
