Vauxhall Viva HB GT

Post by Robbo173 »

Right, i thought that i would share with you all my restoration project, its not going to be quick, it might just take a year or 2, but i hope you find it as interesting as i do :)

The car is a 1969 Vauxhall viva HB GT its a 2.0 mk1.5 (not quite mk1 and not quite mk2, Made from the factory like this :P) Its original colour is Elkhart Yellow and was made in luton like most of the GT's.

The history of it im not too sure of but it wast bought for my dads birthday about 20years ago by his mum who has sadly passed away and in her memory i hope to get this back on the road, it was sitting at my grandads house for about 10 of those years and then it was moved to its current location being in the garage at my house, and then sat there for a further 5 years before eventually a little bit of work started.

Although it had been sitting around for 15 years rotting away, it only took a little bit of carb cleaner and some fuel and it started after a few attempts, it sounded good the only real problem being the water pump which needs replacing, the engine will be overhauled near the end as most of the work is required on the shell.

All the major body panels we have the work that needs doing it mainly on the front floor pans and the chassis rails, although there are rust holes everywhere.

Now a few years later the work will hopefully start and we will get it done soon as i want to drive it :P

Heres a few pics of the state its in at the moment

Started some repair work on the Nearside inner sil, unforunatly pretty much everything to do with the chassis will have to be made by hand as there are no spare parts whatsoever :/
