rewireing head unit please help

Hi all I cut a corner when fitting my alarm I wired the earth wire to an existing earth wire instead of directly to the chassis.
This then caused my the power cable from the back of the ignition to the sterio to short nearly setting the car alight. Now that wire is burnt all the way through the dash I have no sterio. The unit powers on and I can remove cds but face does not work.
I ran a new cable from ignition to head but no difference. Is it best I just hard wire sterio to the battery as have no solutions other than removing dash please help

Think you need a professional to look at it. Burnt wiring can hide after you think you found it all
