Hi everyone,
So my corsa has been puffing out white smoke a bit recently, we thought it was just condensation - but apparently not.
We were driving today, and the smoke was really bad - like a cloud following us, probably causing a hazzard! It worried us so we Pulled in when we could and called the AA. AA man looked and checked the oil, which was apparently low - it was topped up recently, so that was concerning.
The AA guy revved the engine and said the smoke smells, like oil - the engine must be burning it.
So, it could be the piston rings?
Does anyone know how much this would be to repair, how much should i expect a local garage to do the work?
Cheers
Baggz

Re: Burning Oil
the first thing to check in this situation is that the rocker cover isnt leaking and causing oil to travel down the plugs into the engine and burning the oil.

Re: Burning Oil
If you can get hold of a compression tester check the compression !
If there is a low one compression on a bore!
Put a lite bit of engine oil in that spark plug hole and try it again!
IF... the compression comes back up then it's your rings if if it doesn't then sounds like valves?
The oil temporarily seals the rings till the engine burns it!

Re: Burning Oil
like corsa sam said, do the compression test and see if its the rings. if putting oil down the plug holes doesnt raise the compression, its the valve stem oil seals.
if its the piston rings you can forget gettin it fixed and forget doing it yourself. you however can buy some paste that you apply through the plug holes and is supposed to help the stop the smoke. dunno wether it works or not. i'll get the name of it if you need it.
if its the piston rings you can forget that too unless you can do it yourself. i've donen it a few times before and it is a pain in the arse trust me.
