Just bought a 1.0 12v

Hi,

Have just bought a 1.0 12v GLS 5 door. 2000 MY, Collect it on tuesday and my pal who has his own garage is giving it a full service on wednesday.

The car is in good nick with FVSH and regular oil changes. Engine sounds really sweet.

It has a couple of issues. Firstly the clutch is not good, bite point is at the floor and the pedal is quite a bit higher than the brake pedal. So, its getting a new clutch which will hopefully cure this & was also factored into the price . I'm hoping that this will also explain the bad gear change, finding 1 & 2 is ok, but the change to 3rd is BAD. Fingers crossed.

Also, the throttle pedal seems to need to be pushed really hard to have an effect. Is it a cable or drive by wire?

Haynes manual ordered so can't look it up.

Alrite mate. Nice one. Ive got a 3 pot myself. The clutch pedal is normal. My biting point is fairly low, but you'll adjust. My Throttle cable seems to be quite slack too. About 5mm or so. It doesnt make that much difference. Im assuming its just how the 1litres are. I would de-restrict the airbox if i were you, all the air is concentrated through a small space on the filter and mine was rather dirty. It also picks up a lot quicker. I havent had any problems otherwise. Good luck

my clutch cable has an adjuster on the gearbox end, you could try that first?

Hi all,

Just had the car serviced and a new clutch fitted. It's superb now, the clutch is light and the change easy. It's transformed the car.

The only bit of the change I didn't have done was the coolant. I'll do that myself as I have sme Vx coolant left over from my other car and will use that. I'll also flush the system and blank off the EGR valve at the same time.
