1.4 8v thermostat leaks

Post by ClarkBoyjr »

hi there i have a 1.4 8v corsa thats runs fine at he start and then after a while of driving it overheats alot i have changed the thermostat and waterpump and radiator at the same time and it seemed to work for a bit but my thermostat keeps leaking i have read the manual too many times to check if i have been missing something when putting it back together there is nothing saying about a gasket for the thermostat housing so i have just left is there anyway of fixing this maybe i could use instant gasket for it ????

I've just replaced the thermostat on my 1.0 12v and it was pointed out to me that there is a rubber seal needed also. Maybe its the same with yours?

If the surfaces where the seal sits are clean and not pitted or corroded then it's possible that the thermostat housing has become porous due to overheating. I would double check the surfaces first though, and make sure it's not something else leaking and the coolant is just running down to that point, something like a hose maybe?
