1.0 12v MPG

Post by Lincs Robert6 »

Have got our 2000 1.0 12v running nicely now, all serviced and used as a daily drive. 10 miles to work, 10 miles back.

Had probs with the thermostat which was causing the engine to run cool - so have fitted a new stat and all is fine.

Thing is that the MPG isn't as good as I was expecting. I haven't done a brim to brim check as yet - but it just seems to be using about £25 worth to do about 150 miles - which is coming in at 30 mpg. :(

I'll give it a good check over but was wondering if there is anything obvious to look for.

Thanks - Rob

I'd make sure all your tyres are the same pressure. Use your handbook to determine the correct pressure depending on your load, say it's just you in the car then only pump them up to about 29PSI all around or something.

Even though it may not improve it by a lot, it's still something.

It can depend on the traffic conditions, a lot of stop start will kill mpg. Normally the 3 cyl cars are quite good. Make sure the exhaust isn't leaking at the front pipe as this will draw in air past the oxy sensor causing the ecu to enrich the mixture. Also a faulty EGR valve can cause excess mpg too. There are of course alot of things which can cause it but I have given you a start :)
