corsa 1l only runs for 10 seconds the cuts out can any1 help

Post by nat hart28 »

hi need help with my corsa 1l 1998, had a problem with the plug connector on my egr valve( the wires had corroded) i have since replaced the connector and now the car wont stay started. the car ticks over for 10 seconds then cuts out, i have replaced the egr valve because some one said that was the problem, then a mechanic said that the crankshaft positioning sensor had gone so i replaced that then they said it may be the timing had gone so i had that checked and all was fine, i have also had new plugs and a new coil pack and the car still wont stay started, i brought a op-com diagnosis kit and 3 fault codes came up which were P0120- throttle voltage high
P1405- egr feed b voltage high
P0100- mass air flow sensor voltage high
could any of these be causing the problem and could any one suggest how to fix them or what to try next on the car im running out of cash to keep wasting on the car could anyone help please

I had a similar problem with my 1litre. Engine light would come on and i'd lose power above 40-50mph. That turned out to be the mass air flow sensor (through research).

Then one day, it just cut out after coming out of the A3. Wouldn't start for about 30 mins, (would turn, but wouldnt catch). Took it to garage, they scanned it. Mass air flow sensor & 02 Sensor were faulty. Replaced both parts myself (cheaper... but still expensive). Car cut out again when driving. Took it to a different garage, Crankshaft sensor was faulty, they replaced it. Car cut out AGAIN. Took it back to the garage, they spent 2 days doing a thourough check. Egr valve was only being 80% effective, replaced it, now my car doesnt cut out. Occassionally when starting it will feel like it's not gonna catch, but it ALWAYS does, but it still has a little rough idle in neutral, so i think theres something still wrong, but it runs, and i've paid way too much, so aslong as it runs, I don't care.

a way to test the mass air flow sensor, is to disconnect it under the bonnet and see how your car runs. Other than that, I recommend taking it to a very good garage, or Vauxhall itself because from my experience, this is my first car, and my experience with garages so far is if the diagnostics isn't telling them, they'll keep guessing (at your expense... a very expensive expense that is...) and that is noooo fun! Goodluck!

hi thanks for your reply, iv already changed the mass air filter, egr valve and crankshaft sensor spark plugs coil pack and had the car re diagnosed and the vaults are still their, had a mobile mechanic out and he checked the timing and fuel air etc and he said everything is fine it just wont start not much help really, iv changed or done everything that people have suggested and it still wont start think its time to scrap to be fair(at my expense because I have to get it towed their) but don't want to be defeated its probably something simple but who knows

i think if you disconnect the battery and leave it for 30 mins this will reset everything. if it was an immobiliser problem the car wouldnt start at all.
