1.0 12v possible egr fault?

Hi all, my 1.0l is showing me its engine management light.
Tried doing a bit of fault finding on my own and have found that whilst the engine is running, i disconnect the plug to the egr and reconnect it, it clears the eml. However when i switch off the engine and turn it back on eml returns.

Any thoughts?

I have given the egr a clean but still no change.

Update for future references:

Finally had the time to change out the egr valve. Problem sorted, engine management light goes off when car is started.
1x egr valve £70 from ebay.
